Job Description
Are you a seasoned proposal professional ready to take the next step in your career? Emerson is offering an exciting opportunity for driven and technically strong professionals to join our Process Systems and Solutions team. This role is based in Mumbai, though candidates from other locations are welcome to apply if they are open to relocation.
In this role, you will collaborate closely with the sales organization across India to develop optimized technical solutions, competitive proposals, and accurate cost estimations. You will play a key role in shaping customer-facing solutions while meeting tight timelines and high technical standards.
Key Responsibilities
As a Proposal Engineer, you will be responsible for:
- Developing comprehensive technical and commercial proposals aligned with customer requirements
- Designing and optimizing solutions involving DCS, PLC, and Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS)
- Interpreting RFQs and identifying both opportunities and risks to support sales strategy
- Analyzing customer specifications and translating them into effective automation solutions
- Preparing cost estimates and ensuring technical and commercial competitiveness
- Coordinating with third-party vendors, evaluating their offerings for technical suitability
- Participating in techno-commercial discussions and delivering project-specific presentations
- Managing multiple proposals simultaneously while meeting deadlines
- Working independently as well as collaboratively within cross-functional teams
Technical Expertise & Skills
The ideal candidate will bring:
- Strong knowledge of process automation concepts, industrial communication buses, and hazardous area classification
- Experience with third-party products commonly used in system design
- Proven ability to size and configure DCS systems based on RFQ requirements
- Solid understanding of the project lifecycle, from concept through commissioning
- Proficiency in tools such as MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio
- Excellent analytical, communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
- A structured, detail-oriented approach with strong prioritization abilities
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
- Minimum 4 years of relevant experience in proposal engineering or system design
- In-depth knowledge of at least one legacy Distributed Control System
- Experience working in a matrix organization
- Willingness to travel as required
