JOB DESCRIPTION: This is an entry-level position with the Engineering Technologist department. The goal of this position is to use technical abilities to accurately evaluate choices and create safe, cost-effective, and reliable facility designs for residential, commercial, and industrial projects. Employees are expected to have a basic understanding of client/customer design and workflow processes/procedures, data input, and technical abilities in the client’s areas of expertise.
Responsibilities:
With the assistance of direct supervision and mentoring, the incumbent is responsible for carrying out the following duties:
- Always learn, practice, and advocate safety policies and procedures.
- Apply relevant codes, rules, policies, and procedures to assigned tasks.
- Learn how to securely visit job sites and engage with construction professionals.
- Master design software and work management solutions used by the organization and clients.
- Create cost-effective project and job packages for electrical installations, including material lists, requisitions, labor estimates, site drawings, and construction drawings, to ensure safety and reliability.
- Accurately estimate distribution equipment loading, including transformers.
Demonstrate the ability to learn utility construction methods on both public and private properties.
- Regularly communicate job status to meet client expectations and deliverable dates.
- Foster positive and professional connections with key internal and external customers, ensuring alignment with company and client goals.
- Keep files and documents organized.
- Mentoring under experienced staff, supervision, management, and PE.
- Assume additional responsibilities as allocated by management.
On the job Training:
During the first year of employment, a combination of job shadowing, classroom instruction, and interaction with more experienced employees is used as needed.
Language Skills:
- Capable of reading and interpreting materials such as procedure manuals and operating procedures.
- Ability to write simple communication.
- Able to reply to common requests or concerns from customers, regulatory bodies, or the business community.
Mathematical Skills:
- Capability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in any unit of measurement, including whole integers, common fractions, and decimals. Capable of doing these procedures with American money and weight measurement units, as well as volume and distance.
- The ability to apply ideas like fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to real-world circumstances. Ability to calculate rates, ratios, and percentages, as well as construct and comprehend spread sheets.
- The ability to apply basic algebraic and geometric principles.
Reasoning Ability:
- The ability to use common sense knowledge to carry out complex yet uncomplicated written or oral directions.
- Ability to deal with standardized conditions with few or no variables.

EDUCATION:
- Required High school degree or GED.
- Preferred Associates degree (AA or equivalent from two-year college or technical school).
- Preferred A Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or University in non-engineering science, math, or business.
Experience:
- 1 Year(s) Experience in power distribution engineering or craft or GIS/CAD work .
